Sea Cliff

Go to

Sea Cliff is a small, highly affluent enclave of large single family homes nestled between two major green spaces. Sea Cliff faces directly out to the Golden Gate, Marin Headlands and the Pacific Ocean. The two adjacent ‘parks’ are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) and include Land’s End and the Presidio.

Sea Cliff is consistently among the top three most expensive neighborhoods in San Francisco. Movies have been made here, famous people live here and yes, it’s expensive!

In addition to the incredible green spaces and nearby golf courses in both the Presidio and Land’s End, Sea Cliff has fairly direct access to two different beaches. China Beach Park is a small strand of beach in the middle of the neighborhood, at the foot of the bluffs. Baker Beach is part of the Presidio and stretches all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge.

While you could never get tired of these views, which everyone can see from the bluffs in either Land’s End or the Presidio, you don’t get to see them all the time.

San Francisco can be highly affected by fog from the Pacific Ocean. This mostly happens, off and on, during the summer months. Sea Cliff is right on the ocean and is one of the first places to get fogged in, when it comes.

The fog is cold! This fog, which is also referred to as the marine layer, is created by evaporation from the Pacific Ocean. The water temperature is normally in the range of 50 – 55 degrees.

When the fog comes in during the summer months, it can cool the coastal areas down to roughly 60 degrees, even though it will be over 80, 90 or even 100 degrees, for the inland areas of the east bay.

Sea Cliff is part of a chain of very affluent neighborhoods along the northern edge of San Francisco. As you move from west to east the weather improves and the housing stock changes.

In the west, the homes are nearly all single family residences. In the east they are nearly all condos, while in the middle they are a mixture of the two.

Going from west to east, the neighborhoods that make up this northern belt of affluence are:

  • Sea Cliff
  • Lake Street District
  • Presidio Heights
  • Pacific Heights
  • Cow Hollow
  • The Marina
  • Russian Hill
  • Nob Hill
  • Telegraph Hill
